This past spring, we realized that we needed to replace our foundation before more damage was done. We contacted a few contractors to interview and get estimates for the repair. When we met James, we were impressed with his ability to communicate with us. He appeared honest and knowledgeable. He gave us a very fair price for the project which included options for us to do some work ourselves. For these reasons, we choose James for the project. Once the project started, we were in constant contact with James to keep informed on the project. There were very few problems that came up and when they did, we were able to take care of them immediately. We made some changes along the way and James always accommodated us. We met two of his contractors and they said James was demanding of them to get the job done in a timely manner. James said it would take 8 to 10 weeks for the completion of the job and it was finished in 8 weeks. When we moved back into our house, we were very pleased with the job that James did. The outside of our house looks better now than it ever did. We can’t imagine that anyone else could do a better job and we did not find any problems when we returned. We highly recommend James for foundation replacement. You will be happy with the job.
We highly recommend Newcity Builders based on our experience with our recent foundation replacement. From the beginning, as early as that decision-making phase, James always made himself available and explained the concepts and methods behind such a large project in a clear and concise manner. He provided options and was very clear in outlining what the project plan would entail and how long it would take. We chose to have them do a complete job including a lift, foundation and replacement of landscaping and the quote seemed fair and was competitive. During the project, James continued to be communicative providing progress updates. He also displayed great project management, sequencing the different tasks for each phase so that the project went smoothly with no significant periods of downtime. They started in late winter and managed to finish within 2 months despite several late winter snowstorms. Our neighbors commented about the diligence and efficiency they observed during the process. At the conclusion of this project, we are extremely pleased. They were able to make significant improvements to the drainage, grading, and landscaping. We also did not have any issues with unplanned additions to the scope of work and associated upcharges. The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule which was a huge plus for us. For areas which had to be destroyed, I felt the materials used for any replacements were of good quality. And the clean-up that was done to take it from construction site to move-in condition was phenomenal. The landscaping – trees, walkway – which is also so key to creating a finished look, was beautiful. So in a nutshell, I don’t hesitate to recommend James for any foundation replacement project.
In late 2016, Newcity Builders LLC broke ground for our custom home situated on 5.5 acres in Ashford, CT. We engaged James Newcity as our contractor to build a ~2000 square foot ranch which also included a three car attached garage, and a separate 26 X 32 garage/workshop. In addition, approximately 600 square feet of the basement was finished in a walk-out configuration. Due to the enormous amount of site work required, an uncooperative winter season, and over 100 owner-initiated change orders, this build tested James and his sub-contractors over the next eleven months. Not to mention, a meddling, hands-on, client who was on site almost every day. James and his subs were always professional and the quality of materials/workmanship was excellent. His attention to detail showed in every town building inspection being passed at first review. The finished product is exactly as we had envisioned and James was a pleasure to work with during the entire process. The sub-contractors he employs all think very highly of him and were vocal about how well he organizes and supports them. They especially appreciate that he is a “rolled up sleeves” contributor to the process, doing whatever it takes to move the job along. Newcity Builders LLC gets our vigorous recommendation as THE builder to go with for a most prized possession, your home! Whether it is a spec house, renovation or a custom project, James will not disappoint.
From the moment we connected with James, it was obvious that he was knowledgeable about home building. It has been a long time dream of ours to build a house. As first time home builders, we interviewed a good amount of other builders. After interviewing a number of builders, we hired James to construct a custom home on a lot that we owned. During the interview process James stood out from the others because of his depth of knowledge, responsiveness to our questions and his straightforward and honest approach. James did not spend a lot of time telling us about all of the great homes he’d built over the years; instead he listened to what we wanted and let us know what we could expect to pay to get there. After we selected James, we worked very closely with him finalizing our design plans, making our selections for finishes/fixtures and agreeing on a contract and price. The best compliment we can pay to James to provide comfort for future clients would be that he did exactly what he said he was going to do, within the timeframe he said he was going to do it and for the amount he quoted. We were involved on a daily basis during the building process and James was receptive to our ideas and always willing to share his experienced based opinion to help us make the best decisions. James has great relationships with all of his subcontractors, who were all very personable and talented at their respective trades. Overall, we are very happy with our new home and would highly recommend Newcity Builders.
We moved from the UK to Connecticut, and in the year before our move, we were introduced to James by our realtor. We checked out some of his builds, including a custom build that was almost exactly what we wanted and worked with James to get the size, and price, just right. James had made it clear that we could be as hands-on, or hands-off, as we wanted. We worked together throughout the year, saying “we want more windows”, or “we want fewer walls”, or “we want better insulation”, and James worked tirelessly to build the exact house we wanted. He was not daunted by the fact that no one in this part of Connecticut builds open stairwells with open wooden treads and steel cable. But that’s what we have! And throughout the planning and building he would discuss the merits or otherwise of our ideas, work out the additional costs (or savings) to help us budget, and help us consider the (very many) options. During the building itself, we were still based in Europe and only visited twice – everything else was done by email (and a steady stream of photographs showing progress week-by-week), and to this day I do not know how James managed to reply to our endless emails so quickly, completely, and patiently. But building the perfect house (which he did, and which we now live in) was just half the story – we knew from his other clients that James doesn’t walk away once the house is built, and indeed, we can attest to an “after care” service that is better than anything you could ever pay money for. We feel exceptionally lucky to have had this opportunity to work with James. We would unhesitatingly recommend him. He is probably the most trustworthy, meticulous, able, and friendly house builder you will ever find.
Our experience with James has been outstanding. He is very professional and well-organized, quick to respond to email and always available by phone. We interviewed many builders, James being the first, and none even came close to the caliber of quality or customer service as James provided us. James’ flexibility combined with his eye for detail and quality made our process very smooth and care-free. We were building our house during one of the most busy and stressful years of our lives. James provided a source of calm in our lives that we really needed. From start to finish, James was responsive to our every request. “No” is not in his vocabulary. Changes are going to happen during the build of any custom home. James understands that the customer needs/wants may change, and he was accommodating. The thing that separates James from other builders is that he did not prey on this inevitability. Changes were not charged at a premium rate because they occurred after the contract. Instead, they were incorporated at the same cost as if they were a part of the original contract. This saved literally thousands of dollars over what it would have cost with another builder. James provided us all the opportunity to make any decision we desired as to the finishes in the house. We picked nearly everything from the knobs on the cabinets to the floor stain to the paint colors to the location of many of the utilities and the way the yard was set up. We visited the build site many times and found James’ subcontractors to be excellent, from their workmanship to their friendliness with our family. James handled a short timeline and a demanding customer very well. He went from empty lot to completion in four months, delivering on his promise to get us in by the end of July. Our house could not have turned out better. My wife and I are totally satisfied with the entire process, and the result is amazing. I have a ton of advice and lessons learned from the entire process, but the best piece of advice I can give you is to trust James Newcity. He will not disappoint. I am convinced we could have just said, “James, build me a house that I will love” and it would have worked out great. If you have found James Newcity, you have found the right builder. Nobody else comes close. The best compliment I can give anyone is a referral, and I would recommend James.
